Archery Guyana's Continental Judge Selected to Officiate at 2024 Pan American Archery Championships

The National Federation is pleased to announce the staging of the National Outdoor Archery Championship 2025, set for July 12–13, 2025, at the Leonora National Track and Field Centre.

This annual tournament represents the pinnacle of local outdoor target archery competition and brings together the nation's best and emerging archers across divisions and age categories. Spanning two intense days of qualification and elimination rounds, the Championship will feature disciplines in Recurve, Compound, and Barebow, across Men, Women, Under-21 Men and Under-21 Women classes.



Event Schedule:

Day 1 – Saturday, July 12: Qualification Rounds (9:00am to 5:00 pm)

Day 2 – Sunday, July 13: Elimination and Final Rounds (9:00am to 5:00 pm)



Competition Categories:

Athletes will compete across three groups: Beginners, Developmental and Amateur

Shooting distances will vary by group and equipment class, ranging from 30M to 70M, with target face sizes adjusted accordingly. Notably, all Recurve Amateur archers will shoot at 70M using a 122cm target face which is the Olympic standard.

To uphold the integrity of rankings and competition progression, athletes who have medaled or excelled at a lower class are mandated to compete at the next higher class. This step-wise approach supports skill development and encourages athletes to grow within the sport.



National Ranking and Team Selection;

Performances at this championship will be recorded in Archery Guyana’s National Ranking System and will contribute toward selection for high-level training squads and future national team consideration. Athletes must also comply with sport integrity standards including WADA, RADO, and NADO requirements.



Format of Play:

Qualification Round: 72 arrows shot in 12 ends

Elimination Rounds:

Recurve & Barebow: Set system (first to 6 points)

Compound: Cumulative score (max 150 points over 5 ends)



Team Events;

Only registered clubs may participate in team rounds. Team categories include:

Men’s Teams (3 same bow type)

Women’s Teams (3 same bow type)

Mixed Teams (1 male, 1 female, same bow type)

Teams must confirm their roster within 15 minutes of seeding announcement.

The Board also expressed thanks to Honourable Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Minister Charles Ramson, for his support and permission to use the Prestigious Leonora Track and Field Centre. Archery Guyana is proud to announce that we have officially accepted the position allocated to Guyana by the Confederación Panamericana de Tiro con Arco (World Archery Americas) for participation in the Recurve Men Category at the Pan American Junior Games to be held in Asuncion, Paraguay.


This exciting opportunity marks Guyana's first-ever participation in the Junior Pan American Games for archery, a historic milestone for our Federation and country.


Our young athlete Lucas Chung, together with Assistant National Coach Mr. Jeewanram Persaud, continues dedicated training in preparation for this prestigious event.


On behalf of the Federation, President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon expressed: “This is an incredible moment for Archery Guyana. To be represented on such a significant international stage for the first time at the Junior Pan American level is a testament to the hard work and vision of our entire team over the years. We are immensely proud of Lucas and Coach Jeewanram and stand in full support of their journey to Asuncion. We’ve come a long way.... and this is only the beginning!

All Roads Lead to Asuncion, Paraguay


Archery Guyana proudly celebrates the continued international representation and excellence of its World Archery Americas' certified Continental Judges, who are serving with distinction at major events across the globe in 2025.

Mr. Robert Singh recently officiated at the South American Open Championships held in Medellín, Colombia from May 20–25, 2025, after the event was relocated from its original venue in Peru. His presence at this prestigious championship further underscores Guyana’s growing footprint in regional and international archery governance.

World Archery Americas recognises Continental Judges as officials who have successfully completed specialised certification, and who consistently demonstrate technical proficiency, neutrality, and adherence to World Archery standards across diverse formats, from para archery to elite continental championships.

President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, offered high praise for the judges, stating: “It fills us with immense pride to see our Continental Judges actively contributing on the international stage. Robert, Nicholas, and Mohamed exemplify the values of fairness, integrity, and excellence that are the bedrock of World Archery. Their appointments reflect not only their personal commitment but also Archery Guyana’s strategic investment in technical human resource development. We salute their service and look forward to their continued contributions as ambassadors of Guyanese archery.”

As Archery Guyana continues to nurture both athletes and officials, these appointments signal a broader vision of integrating Guyana into the heart of international archery, not just through performance, but also through meaningful leadership and stewardship of the sport’s rules and values.

Currently on assignment, Mr. Nicholas Hing is in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he is serving as a judge at the Central American and Caribbean Games Qualifier, taking place from June 16–22, 2025. Mr. Hing continues to earn commendation for his experience and dedication on the archery range.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mohamed Khan has been selected as an alternate judge for the Para World Ranking Event to be held in Chicago, USA from August 27–31, 2025. His confirmation to the judging panel for the Caribbean Development Championships in Trinidad & Tobago, from October 22–26, 2025, affirms his rising trajectory as a respected judge within the Americas region.

Archery Guyana is proud to announce the continuation and expansion of its successful partnership with Guyana Beverages Inc. (G.B.I.), marking a milestone in athlete support and sustainable sports development.

As the official beverage sponsor, G.B.I., under the leadership of Managing Director Mr. Samuel Arjoon and dedicated team, will continue supplying Oasis purified water and the innovative new Altitude sports drink to all national archery events. On Saturday, February 4, Archery Guyana Head Coach Nicholas Hing, presented to Qayyim Academy’s Principal Bibi Romena Constantine-Mohamed, their official certificate of registration and affiliation together with a bow and arrow set, at a simple ceremony in the school’s compound.

“Qayyim Academy”, also the name of the school’s archery club has been quite active for a few months now under the instruction of Archery Guyana member Mr Saeed Karim who is also a teacher there, along with the support from Archery Guyana’s head coach other members from time to time and Miss Romena, as she is normally addressed by her students and teachers, is very enthusiastic about having the students involved in sports and is excited to have archery as one of the sports developed in school.

The club has already built their own targets and quivers, and has also acquired some equipment in the form of bows and arrows.
This is another step in Archery Guyana’s vision of developing the sport at the grass roots level beginning in the schools with the aim of discovering and encouraging athletes from the primary to the university level. Thereby ensuring the widest possible participation in its effort to find the best Archers to represent Guyana both regionally and Internationally, specifically at the Olympic games.

Archery Guyana is committed to providing the necessary training for instructors and certified coaches and judges, both junior and senior. With this in mind, Archery Guyana sees archery as an additional event at school sports; Inter-house, Inter-schools and Nationals, thereby fostering a competitive spirit among students and the camaraderie that archery is internationally known for.

Qayyim Academy registers second archery school club under Archery Guyana

The Annual General Meeting of Archery Guyana Inc. was successfully held at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street on Friday 21st June, 2024, and members were therein given the opportunity to discuss activities and plans for the way forward to promote the Olympic sport of Archery in Guyana.

At the AGM, President, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon delivered a detailed report and background to the membership, from its establishment in August 2014 to date. This was followed by the delivery of a comprehensive Annual Report on all of the activities of the Federation, which was well received.

At the AGM, elections took place for the positions of Vice-President, Assistant Secretary, and Assistant Treasurer. The electoral process, known for its transparency and adherence to democratic principles, was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Siand Dhurjon, Attorney-at-Law.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon expressed thanks for the professionalism demonstrated and opined that she is pleased that this year saw the number of women coming forward to contest positions on the Board of Directors. This is indicative of gender parity and she encourages more women to step to the fore to take leadership positions. Regrettably, in spite of contenders such as Roshini Boodhoo, Melesa Ramnaraine, Samira Duncan and Narda Mohamed, the electorate did not favour them and the elected board whose tenure ends 2027 now comprises as follows:

"While we have made strides towards gender parity, there is still work to be done. I encourage more women to step up and lead. Their involvement is crucial to the diverse and dynamic future of Archery Guyana."

Archery Guyana is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports the development and participation of all members. The Federation looks forward to another year of growth, excellence, and increased engagement from its members.

The Externally Audited Financial Report was presented to the membership and was duly approved. Two motions were unanimously passed to amend the Constitution accordingly.
