Archery Guyana proudly announces the participation of three of Guyana’s archers at the XIII South American Games Santa Fe 2026, being held in Argentina. Representing Guyana in archery are:

* Mehandra Chatargum
* Trevaughn Waldron

The team is accompanied by Coach Ryan McKinnon.

The archery competition will take place in Rosario from September 22–25, 2026 as part of the Games programme, which brings together athletes from across South America and the wider region. The Games are being hosted across the three Argentine cities of Rosario, Santa Fe and Rafaela, with 43 sports and 60 disciplines on the programme.

The Guyanese archers form part of the 44-member Team Guyana competing across eight sporting disciplines under the umbrella of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA). Guyana’s delegation includes athletes competing in athletics, archery, boxing, esports, squash, table tennis, taekwondo and tennis.

For Archery Guyana, participation at Santa Fe 2026 represents another important opportunity for Guyanese archers to compete at a major multi-sport international event, gain experience against athletes from across the region and continue developing within Guyana’s high-performance pathway.

The participation also forms part of a particularly active international year for Guyanese archery. In 2026, Guyanese archers have represented the country at major regional competitions, while the federation continues to develop athletes, coaches and officials for sustained international participation.

Archery Guyana recognises the important role played by the Guyana Olympic Association in facilitating Guyana’s participation in the South American Games and in providing national federations and athletes with opportunities to compete on the international stage and in this regard extends thanks to President Godfrey Munroe and his Executive Committee.

The GOA has identified the South American Games as part of Guyana’s broader preparation and development pathway toward future major multi-sport competitions, including the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. 

The Santa Fe Games are particularly significant for Archery Guyana as the federation prepares to welcome the archery family to Guyana later this year for the inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships and 8th Caribbean Development Championships, scheduled for October 22–25, 2026 at the Guyana National Stadium.

Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon expressed pride in the team’s participation: “It is always a proud moment to see Guyanese archers take their place on an international field representing our country. Santa Fe provides another valuable opportunity for our athletes to test themselves, gain experience and continue building their international careers." 

She added that participation in major Games must be viewed as part of a continuing development process. “Every international competition adds another chapter to an athlete’s development. Our responsibility as a federation is to ensure that these opportunities translate into experience, knowledge and a stronger pathway for the athletes who will follow.”

Seven Seas and Vigorton, brands distributed by Massy Distribution (Guyana) Inc., have partnered with Archery Guyana in support of the Inaugural Caribbean Archery Championships and 8th Caribbean Developmental Championship (CDC), set for October 22–25, 2026, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

The sponsorship sees Seven Seas continuing a relationship with Archery Guyana that began in 2019, while Vigorton joins the organisation as a sponsor for the first time.

The sponsorship handover took place at Massy Distribution (Guyana) Inc.’s head office at Montrose, East Coast Demerara. President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, received the sponsorship from Neelam Dharmo, Manager of the Health + Beauty Division at Massy Distribution (Guyana) Inc.; Dileya Deonarine, Brand Specialist for Seven Seas; and Danielle Barkoye, Brand Specialist for Vigorton.

Seven Seas is a longstanding health and wellness brand known for its Omega-3 nutrition products, including cod liver oil, supplements and its JointCare range, developed to support health and active living.

Vigorton is a nutritional supplement brand offering vitamin and mineral formulations designed to complement everyday nutrition and support general health and wellbeing.

Seven Seas first partnered with Archery Guyana in 2019, with the relationship reflecting shared values including focus, discipline, precision and concentration. Its continued support, together with Vigorton’s involvement for the first time, comes as Archery Guyana prepares to welcome regional and international participants for one of the most significant events on its calendar.

Guyana secured the hosting rights for the championships after competing against Jamaica. The event will bring archers, coaches, judges, officials and representatives from across the Caribbean and beyond, while giving Guyanese archers an opportunity to compete internationally on home soil.

Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon thanked Massy Distribution (Guyana) Inc., Seven Seas and Vigorton for their support. "We are grateful to Massy Distribution, Seven Seas and Vigorton for supporting Archery Guyana at such an important time. Seven Seas has been a valued partner over the years, and we are delighted to welcome Vigorton as a sponsor for the first time,” she said.

It reflects a shared commitment to creating greater opportunities for athletes, raising the profile of archery and contributing to the growth of the sport at the international level.

MVP Sports has established itself as a significant supporter of Guyanese sport, with its involvement extending across several sporting disciplines. The company has also received recognition from the National Sports Commission for its contribution to sport, including Corporate Sponsor of the Year recognition.

For Archery Guyana, collaboration with businesses such as MVP Sports is an important component of building a sustainable sporting structure. President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, welcomed the collaboration. “We are delighted to welcome MVP Sports into the Archery Guyana family. It requires government, the private sector and sporting organisations to work together to create opportunities for our athletes.”

MVP Sports partners with Archery Guyana to support the 2026 archery championships to be hosted in Guyana

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana proudly congratulates young archer Ravish Singh on his successful participation in the Olympic Youth Camp Tobago 2026, held from August 23–28, 2026 where he represented Guyana alongside young participants from across the Caribbean.

Ravish's participation followed a structured and competitive selection process conducted by Archery Guyana after the Federation was invited to nominate one youth participant for the regional Olympic youth development programme.

Recognising the importance of ensuring a fair and transparent process, Archery Guyana developed specific selection criteria aligned with both the requirements of the Olympic Youth Camp and the Federation's objectives for youth development.

Five nominations were received and considered. To ensure that the final decision was not simply based on a single individual's assessment, Archery Guyana established a five-member Selection Panel comprising representatives from different clubs: Narda Mohammed, Kenrick Cheeks, Samira Duncan, Karin Toppin and Melissa Ramnarine.

The Selection Panel met to deliberate on the five nominations, applying an agreed grading system, followed by a vote. Following the first round of voting, there was a clear winner, with Ravish Singh emerging as the selected nominee.

Archery Guyana subsequently communicated with the unsuccessful nominees, thanking them for the quality of their applications and encouraging them to pursue future opportunities.

The Federation also wishes to formally acknowledge the Selection Panel for the time, care and professionalism demonstrated in undertaking what was recognised as a difficult task in selecting one nominee from a strong field.

The Olympic Youth Camp provided Ravish with an opportunity to develop not only as an athlete, but as a young leader and ambassador.

During the camp, he interacted with young people from different Caribbean countries and athletes from a variety of sporting disciplines.

The programme included sessions on Olympic history, careers in sport, nutrition, mental health and wellbeing, anger management, conflict resolution, sustainability, responsibility and career planning, alongside sporting and cultural activities.

Ravish also participated in team-building activities, including a supervised breakfast preparation exercise.

His conduct and personal responsibility were further recognised when he received an award for having the cleanest room at the youth camp.

Reflecting on his experience, Ravish said: “It was honestly an amazing experience. I got to meet and interact with young people from different Caribbean countries and athletes from different sports, including netball, volleyball, and of course, archery.”

Archery Guyana extends its sincere appreciation to President Godfrey Munroe and the Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association for providing Ravish with this valuable international youth development opportunity and for supporting opportunities that expose young Guyanese athletes to leadership, education, cultural exchange and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, said: “For us, youth development is about much more than producing athletes. We want to develop young people who are disciplined, responsible, confident and capable of becoming future leaders and ambassadors for their sport and their country.”

Archery Guyana also extends congratulations to the other members of the Guyanese contingent, Tesianna Harris, who represented Guyana in track and field, and Crystal Persaud, who served as chaperone. We are pleased that Ravish was able to share this experience with fellow Guyanese representatives and to contribute to the country's participation in this important regional youth development initiative.

Elle & Vire joins the Archery Championships in support of Guyanese athletes and regional sport

Archery Guyana is delighted to announce that Cirkel Distributors Inc. has come on board as a corporate supporter of the 2026 Archery Championships, bringing with it not only valuable corporate support, but also a Taste of France through Elle & Vire yoghurt.

The partnership follows an encouraging meeting at Cirkel Distributors’ Head Office between Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, General Manager Shafeez Alli and Marketing Manager Rudy Jairam.

Cirkel has committed financial support towards the Championships and is also exploring significant in-kind and promotional support.

Cirkel Brings a 'Taste of Real' Out of France to Archery Championships 2026.

A total of 31 athletes from various school clubs and private clubs participated in the National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026, held earlier today with the Qualification rounds, Saturday 11th July , 2026 at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary. 

The championship showcased the growing strength of youth archery in Guyana, with young athletes demonstrating discipline, focus, and determination in a competitive environment.

Archery Guyana extends sincere appreciation to Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken and Mr. Colin Boyce, Sports Development Officer for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Retired Deputy Superintendent, for their invaluable support in facilitating the successful hosting of the event at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground.

Special thanks are also extended to the management and staff of Guyana Beverages Inc. for providing Oasis Water and Altitude drinks, ensuring that athletes, officials, and volunteers remained hydrated throughout the day’s activities.

The event was further supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, and Director of Sport Mr. Steve Ninvalle.

A highlight of the day was the presence of Honourable Minister Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of,l Vulture, Youth and Sport who spent time on the ground engaging with the young athletes, learning more about the sport of archery, and offering words of encouragement and inspiration about success, resilience, and learning from failure in sport.

The championship will continue with the finals tomorrow on Sunday, July 12, 2026, where the top-ranked athletes will compete for national youth championship honours in the recurve under 15 men and women combined, barebow under 15 women and Barebow under 18 men.

A Landmark Achievement for Archery and Sport in Guyana

A Historic First for the Nation – Official Mascot “Kai the Keen-eyed Kiskadee” Unveiled

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana is proud to announce that Guyana has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships (CDC), a proud and historic milestone for the nation’s sporting landscape.

There are 32 member federations under the umbrella of World Archery Americas. However, only a subset of these were eligible to vote in the selection process for the CDC 2026 host: specifically, those English-speaking Caribbean federations that have participated in the CDC in the last three years or are English-speaking countries but have not yet competed.

Following a competitive bid process between Guyana and Jamaica, Mr. Sergio Font, Secretary-General of World Archery Americas confirmed that following the vote, Guyana has been awarded the hosting rights for the upcoming Championship.

This success follows Archery Guyana’s recent readiness exercise at the Leonora Track and Field Facility, where the federation hosted its 2025 Outdoor National Championships where the Federation demonstrated its growing capability and infrastructure to support high-level competition. 

President of the Federation, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon stated: “We are humbled and honoured by this opportunity to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Archery Guyana, we express our deepest thanks to our regional colleagues for their support and trust. This moment belongs to all of Guyana, and we now look forward to working with stakeholders at every level to ensure an unforgettable and world-class event.”

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Archery Guyana is also proud to unveil the official mascot for 2026 Championships: “Kai the Keen-eyed Kiskadee”.

A vibrant embodiment of Guyanese identity, Kai is a Kiskadee, a bird common to all parts of Guyana, widely recognised and admired across the country. Named in homage to Kaieteur Falls, one of the most iconic and powerful waterfalls in the world, a symbol of Guyana’s natural beauty and strength, Kai brings charm, focus, and vibrant energy to our proposed hosting.

Kai’s eyes are large, animated, and focused, symbolising the discipline and precision of archery.

“Kai reflects the spirit of the Championships, bold, keen, and unmistakably Guyanese” said local designer, Mr. Nicholas Hing.

With this exciting opportunity ahead, Archery Guyana extends an open call to all archers, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and proud Guyanese to come on board and help make the 2026 Championships a bold statement of what Guyana can offer to the region and the world.

Guyana to Host the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships

This collaboration aims to introduce the timeless art of archery to the residents of Essequibo, providing them with a unique opportunity to engage in a sport that combines precision, focus, and athleticism. By leveraging Service Guyana's extensive network and expertise in community outreach, alongside Archery Guyana's passion for promoting the sport, this initiative seeks to facilitate the proposed weekend Training after which participants in the Archery Instructor Course will be sanctioned to instruct the sport of Archery in Essequibo.

At the simple handover ceremony at the Head office of Service Guyana located at Lot 149 Church & Light Street, Georgetown, on March 14, 2024, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sheikh Mujeeb Ahmad opined that "Service Guyana is thrilled to partner with Archery Guyana to introduce archery to Essequibo." Hailing from Essequibo himself, he went on to say that "We believe in the power of sports to inspire and unite communities, and we are excited to bring this opportunity to the people of Essequibo."

Archery Guyana, known for its dedication to fostering the growth of archery in Guyana, is enthusiastic about the collaboration. "We are delighted to work with Service Guyana to expand the reach of archery in Essequibo," said Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, President of Archery Guyana. "This partnership will enable us to introduce more individuals to the joys and benefits of archery, including improved focus, discipline, and physical fitness."

Through joint efforts, Service Guyana and Archery Guyana will continue to organise archery clinics, training sessions, and competitions in Essequibo, as the soon-to-be certified Archery Instructors will be equipped to teach the sport recreationally and in schools.

The introduction of archery to Essequibo represents a significant step forward in promoting the sport and in this regard President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon expressed sincere thanks to Mr. Steve Ninvalle, Director of Sport and the National Sports Commission and in particular Essequibo Sports Organiser Ms. Wazeeda Bacchus for the assistance with respect to logistics put in place for the upcoming training course.
