Archery Guyana affiliates new club: ProArchers Guyana

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana is pleased to announce a continued collaboration with the Tourism & Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) to create a vibrant tourism and hospitality presence during the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships (CDC) and Inaugural Caribbean Cup, being hosted in Guyana from October 21–25, 2026 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

The collaboration forms part of a broader national effort to position Guyana not only as an emerging sporting destination in the Caribbean, but also as one of the region’s most distinctive destinations for eco-tourism, heritage, culture, cuisine, adventure and hospitality.

Through the partnership, THAG and Archery Guyana will work together to introduce visiting athletes, coaches, officials, delegates, families and spectators from across the Caribbean and the Americas to the many experiences Guyana has to offer.

A key component will be the promotion of Explore Guyana Magazine, together with QR-enabled access to digital tourism resources, allowing international visitors to discover Guyana’s tourism attractions, hospitality providers, eco-adventures, cultural experiences, cuisine, entertainment and community-based tourism offerings before and during the championships.

The initiative reflects the growing importance of sport tourism and the Orange Economy, bringing together sport, tourism, culture and the creative industries to generate economic opportunities, strengthen local businesses and enhance Guyana’s international visibility.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, said the championships provide an opportunity to showcase Guyana well beyond the competition field. “When we invite the Caribbean archery family to Guyana, we want them to leave with more than medals and memories of the competition. We want them to discover Guyana ...... our people, our culture, our food, our biodiversity and our extraordinary hospitality. Sport gives us the platform; tourism allows us to tell the fuller Guyanese story.”

THAG Executive Director Mrs. Oslyn Kirton welcomed the partnership, noting the important role sport tourism can play in expanding Guyana’s tourism economy. “Tourism should be one of Guyana’s new frontiers for economic growth. Sport tourism creates opportunities for communities, businesses, creatives, hospitality providers and young people alike. Partnerships such as this with Archery Guyana allow us to showcase authentic Guyanese experiences while ensuring visitors engage meaningfully with our people, culture and destinations.”

The collaboration was discussed earlier in the year at a meeting held at THAG’s office on Waterloo Street, Georgetown, where the representatives explored opportunities to connect the international archery community with Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector.

THAG has also demonstrated its support for Guyana’s growing role within the international archery community through its support for the World Archery Americas (WAA) General Assembly held in June 2026 in Tlaxcala, Mexico. This partnership will continue with THAG maintaining a visible presence during the upcoming championships at the Guyana National Stadium, providing an important link between the sporting event and the wider tourism and hospitality industry.

The CDC and Inaugural Caribbean Cup are expected to bring athletes, officials and supporters from across the Caribbean and the wider Americas to Guyana, providing a valuable platform for local tourism operators, restaurants, attractions and other businesses to engage with an international audience.

For Archery Guyana, the partnership represents an important part of its vision for the championships: to host an international sporting event that creates a lasting legacy not only for archery, but for Guyana.


Archery Guyana and THAG Partner to Showcase Destination Guyana at the 2026 Archery Championships 

The Guyana–China Friendship Society has joined the growing network of partners supporting Archery Guyana as the national federation prepares to host the Archery Championships from October 22–26 in Guyana.

The Society's support was formally handed over by its Secretary, Ms. Mei Cheung, during a presentation to Archery Guyana at a modest handover ceremony, providing timely assistance as the Federation enters the final phase of preparations for the regional championships.

The October championships represent a significant milestone for Guyana's archery development, bringing athletes and officials from across the Caribbean and the Americas to compete on Guyanese soil. Archery Guyana was awarded the hosting rights following a successful bid, making the event an important opportunity to showcase the country's growing capacity in the sport.

For Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, the support from the Guyana–China Friendship Society is particularly meaningful because it directly contributes to the Federation's ability to deliver the championships. “We are extremely grateful to the Guyana–China Friendship Society for standing with Archery Guyana at this important time. Hosting an international archery championship requires significant resources, and every contribution makes a real difference. This support will assist us as we work towards delivering a championship that Guyana can be proud of.”

The Federation has been working intensively to strengthen the sport nationally and build the technical and competitive capacity required to host international events. 

While the immediate focus is on supporting the October championships, the engagement has also opened discussions about longer-term collaboration between the Guyana–China Friendship Society and Archery Guyana specifically in the development of archery.

“We see tremendous potential for this relationship to grow beyond this championship,” Persaud-McKinnon said. “Archery is an Olympic sport, and our ambition is to build a pathway that allows young Guyanese archers to progress from learning the sport, to competing nationally and regionally, and ultimately to pursuing Olympic qualification. Partnerships that invest in that journey can have an impact for many years.”

The Guyana–China Friendship Society has a longstanding mandate of strengthening friendship and people-to-people relations between Guyana and China. Its executive, including Secretary Mei Cheung, has continued to engage in initiatives promoting closer ties between the two countries.

For Archery Guyana, the connection provides an opportunity to bring that spirit of friendship directly into sport.

Archery Guyana expressed its sincere appreciation to Ms. Mei Cheung, President Paul Cheong and the Executive of the Guyana–China Friendship Society for their support and confidence in the Federation.

As the countdown to October continues, Archery Guyana is encouraging additional corporate, community and institutional partners to come forward and join the effort to ensure that Guyana delivers a successful and memorable Caribbean archery championship.

According to Ms. May, "We are very pleased to support Archery Guyana as Guyana prepares to host this important regional championship. Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, inspire young people and strengthen friendship and cooperation. We believe that supporting the development of archery is not only an investment in a sport, but also an investment in the young people who will represent Guyana in the future.”

Ms. Cheung went on to state at the handover ceremony, “We congratulate Archery Guyana on taking on the responsibility of hosting this championship. It is a wonderful opportunity for Guyana to showcase its sporting talent and hospitality to the region. We wish the Federation every success with the preparations and hope that the October championships will be a memorable and successful event for everyone involved.”

“As the Guyana–China Friendship Society, we believe in building lasting partnerships that benefit our communities. We hope this initial support can develop into a longer-term collaboration, particularly in youth development, cultural exchange and the promotion of archery. We would be very happy to see more young Guyanese become involved in the sport and have opportunities to compete at the regional and international levels.”


Guyana–China Friendship Society Supports Archery Guyana Ahead of October Championships

As Guyana prepares to welcome archers from across the Caribbean and beyond for the Caribbean Developmental Championship (CDC) 2026 and the Inaugural Caribbean Championships, a thoughtful and refreshing contribution from Frozen Delight is set to bring a welcome taste of cool relief to athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators.

Frozen Delight, owned by Faraad and Bibi Amreeta Gani, has proudly committed to donating 300 popsicles per day throughout the five-day championship, scheduled for October 22–26, 2026, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

That means approximately 1,500 complimentary popsicles will be provided across the competition.

And the timing could hardly be better.

Guyana is experiencing notably high temperatures this season, with recent reporting highlighting unusually hot conditions and increased demand for electricity.  Climate data for the Providence area indicates that October can still bring substantial heat, with historical October temperatures reaching approximately 89–92°F (32–33°C) depending on the climate dataset and location reference.

Archery is a sport of precision, patience and concentration. Athletes may spend hours on the field, while coaches, judges, volunteers, families and spectators contribute to the energy and atmosphere surrounding the competition.

Frozen Delight's contribution recognises that the athlete experience extends beyond the shooting line.

In addition to the daily donation of 300 popsicles, Frozen Delight will have a variety of other frozen treats available for purchase by participants, supporters and visitors throughout the championship.

The initiative is intended to encourage community spirit, provide refreshments and contribute to the overall enjoyment of what promises to be a landmark sporting event for Guyana and the Caribbean.

Archery Guyana President and Local Organising Committee Chair, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, expressed appreciation for the contribution, noting that practical support such as this can make a meaningful difference to the experience of athletes and visitors. “We are extremely grateful to Faraad and Bibi Amreeta Gani and the Frozen Delight team for recognising that sometimes the simplest contributions can make the biggest difference. With athletes competing outdoors in Guyana's October heat, having a cold treat waiting for them is going to be very welcome indeed!”

Vidushi went on to state: “We want people to remember not only the competition, but the warmth of the welcome they received in Guyana. Frozen Delight is helping us do exactly that.... quite literally bringing a little coolness to the Archery Championship!”

According to Mrs. Bibi Amreeta Gani, "For Frozen Delight, the contribution is about more than selling frozen treats. It is about giving back, supporting sport and helping create a memorable experience for the wider community."

Mr. Faraad Gani stated: “Being involved in archery has shown me how much goes into creating a successful competition, not only from the athletes, but from coaches, officials, volunteers, parents and sponsors. We wanted to contribute in a practical way and help make the Championship a memorable experience for everyone. Supporting sport is about supporting the entire archery community around it.”

The organisers warmly welcome Frozen Delight as a supporter of the Archery Championships 2026 and thank the Gani family for helping to make the championship a little sweeter.... and considerably cooler.

Because after a few hours under the Guyanese sun, nothing says “welcome to Guyana” quite like a frozen treat!


Frozen Delight Brings a Cool Touch to the upcoming Archery Championships 2026

The Chinese Association of Guyana has thrown its support behind Archery Guyana as the Federation intensifies preparations to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships in Guyana this October.

The support was formally handed over at the Chinese Association of Guyana’s Brickdam office, with President of the Chinese Association of Guyana, Mr. Stephen Su, representing the Association.

The gesture comes at a critical stage in preparations for what promises to be one of the most significant international archery events to be hosted in Guyana. Archery Guyana is preparing to welcome athletes, coaches, judges and officials from across the Caribbean and the wider region for the October championships.

For Archery Guyana President Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, the support represents far more than a contribution to an upcoming sporting event. “Hosting an international championship is never the work of one federation alone. It requires a country, its institutions, businesses, communities and supporters to come together with a shared belief in what Guyana can achieve. We are deeply grateful to President Stephen Su and the Chinese Association of Guyana for recognising the importance of this championship and for standing with Archery Guyana at this important moment.”

She added that partnerships such as this demonstrate the increasingly important role of community and private-sector support in building sustainable sport.

The Chinese Association of Guyana has a longstanding presence in Guyana and has continued to contribute to national development and community initiatives. Under the leadership of President Stephen Su, the Association has also participated in partnerships aimed at strengthening cultural, social and economic engagement in Guyana.

The upcoming championships will provide Guyanese athletes with the opportunity to compete on home soil against regional competitors while giving the country the opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to host international sporting events to a high standard.

Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon stressed that every contribution towards the championships has a direct impact on the Federation's ability to deliver the event professionally. Archery Guyana extended its sincere appreciation to President Stephen Su and the Chinese Association of Guyana for their confidence in the Federation and for supporting the continued development of archery in Guyana.

The Federation also called on other members of the business community, civil society and the wider Guyanese community to join the growing circle of partners supporting the October championships.

“We are building something that belongs to Guyana,” Persaud-McKinnon said. “And we want Guyanese businesses, organisations and communities to see themselves as part of this story. When the first arrow is shot in October, it will represent not just the athletes on the shooting line, but everyone who helped us get there.”

Chinese Association of Guyana Backs Archery Guyana Ahead of Historic October Championships

Guyana's Target Archery athletes Devin Permaul and Roshini Boodhoo have completed their qualification rounds at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo on Friday 24th July, 2026.

In their individual recurve quests under sweltering conditions and high humidity, Permaul, seeded 25th in the Recurve Men event. He will move to the next phase of the competition, the elimination round matches, where he will face 8th-seeded Adrian Muñoz Rodríguez of Puerto Rico in the Round of 16.

While Boodhoo, seeded 29th in the tournament, will take on 4th seeded and world number 6 ranked Ana Paula Vázquez Flores of Mexico.

The matches will be contested under the World Archery Olympic set system, with the first archer to reach six set points advancing to the next round.

Traveling with the athletes is National Head Coach Ryan McKinnon who together with President of the Federation Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon praised both athletes for their hard work and preparation leading up to this point. 

Archery Guyana's President said: "Devin and Roshini have worked tirelessly to reach this level of competition. Qualifying for and now able to represent our nation Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Games is an achievement in itself, and we are proud of their dedication and commitment. We wish them every success as they compete against some of the world's best archers."

Both athletes will next compete on Sunday 26th July 2026, with Boodhoo shooting at 2:00 p.m. and Permaul at 3:30 p.m. local time. The live scoring can be followed online at www.ianseo.net

Guyana's Mixed Archery Team start the Central American and Caribbean Games




Archery Guyana is proud to announce that **Lucas Chung** will represent Guyana at the **2nd Qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games**, scheduled to take place in **Buenos Aires, Argentina, from March 19 to 23, 2025**. Competing in the highly competitive **Recurve U21 Men’s category**, Lucas will have the opportunity to showcase his talent on an international stage, vying for a coveted spot at the **Junior Pan American Games 2025 i**n Ascuncion, Paraguay this August. 

This milestone is not only a testament to Lucas’s dedication and skill but also a significant achievement for **Guyana’s archery programme**. The Junior Pan American Games qualifiers attract the best young archers from across the Americas, offering a platform to compete at an elite level and gain invaluable experience. A strong performance in Buenos Aires could position Lucas among the top young archers in the region, enhancing his prospects for future international championships, including the Pan American Games and, ultimately, Olympic-level competition.

The Board of Directors wishes to acknowledge the unwavering support of President Godfrey Munroe and the Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association to enable his participation in this prestigious event. Their commitment to fostering young sporting talent and ensuring that athletes like Lucas have access to international opportunities is truly commendable. Lucas Chung to Compete in 2nd Qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games in Buenos Aires

Archery Guyana recently held its Inaugural Youth championship at the National Gymnasium
which was deemed a success. The youths exceeded all expectations and won the hearts of the
audience.

The ranking rounds were a resounding success with the highest score being 395 held by Saifullah
Gani from ProArchers Guyana in the men’s category. The women were not far behind, Saifullah’s sister,10 years old Fatima Gani, held a score of 301, also from ProArchers Guyana.
The match play events began in the Barebow Division with the finalists in their respective
categories; Men U18, Women U18. In Men U18, Saifullah Gani captured the gold against Daniel
Elliot of Qayyim Archery who received silver, and Muhsin Wazidali also of Qayyim won
bronze.

In the Women U18, Fatima Gani won Gold in a nail-biting 1 arrow shoot off against
Summayyah Karim of Qayyim Archery, who won silver and Stephanie McTurk of Nations
Archery Club copped the bronze medal.

At the presentation ceremony after the event, President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi
Persaud-McKinnon thanked the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Minister Charles
Ramson, the National Sports Commission and Director of Sport, Mr. Steve Ninvalle, for their
usual kind support of the sport, as well as the beverage sponsor Guyana Beverages Inc. for their
tremendous support.

President of Archery Guyana also went on to thank the Judges for their efficiency and
professionalism throughout the competition: Messrs. Ryan McKinnon and Robert Singh. She
also extended thanks to the Chair of the Tech Committee, Mr. Saeed Karim.

President Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon announced the results and together with the Chair of
Competitions Committee, Mr. Jeewanram Persaud and Vice-chair of Competitions Committee
Mr. Umasankar Madray, presented the medals. Participation medals were also presented to each
and every participant.

A Landmark Achievement for Archery and Sport in Guyana

A Historic First for the Nation – Official Mascot “Kai the Keen-eyed Kiskadee” Unveiled

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana is proud to announce that Guyana has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships (CDC), a proud and historic milestone for the nation’s sporting landscape.

There are 32 member federations under the umbrella of World Archery Americas. However, only a subset of these were eligible to vote in the selection process for the CDC 2026 host: specifically, those English-speaking Caribbean federations that have participated in the CDC in the last three years or are English-speaking countries but have not yet competed.

Following a competitive bid process between Guyana and Jamaica, Mr. Sergio Font, Secretary-General of World Archery Americas confirmed that following the vote, Guyana has been awarded the hosting rights for the upcoming Championship.

This success follows Archery Guyana’s recent readiness exercise at the Leonora Track and Field Facility, where the federation hosted its 2025 Outdoor National Championships where the Federation demonstrated its growing capability and infrastructure to support high-level competition. 

President of the Federation, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon stated: “We are humbled and honoured by this opportunity to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Archery Guyana, we express our deepest thanks to our regional colleagues for their support and trust. This moment belongs to all of Guyana, and we now look forward to working with stakeholders at every level to ensure an unforgettable and world-class event.”

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Archery Guyana is also proud to unveil the official mascot for 2026 Championships: “Kai the Keen-eyed Kiskadee”.

A vibrant embodiment of Guyanese identity, Kai is a Kiskadee, a bird common to all parts of Guyana, widely recognised and admired across the country. Named in homage to Kaieteur Falls, one of the most iconic and powerful waterfalls in the world, a symbol of Guyana’s natural beauty and strength, Kai brings charm, focus, and vibrant energy to our proposed hosting.

Kai’s eyes are large, animated, and focused, symbolising the discipline and precision of archery.

“Kai reflects the spirit of the Championships, bold, keen, and unmistakably Guyanese” said local designer, Mr. Nicholas Hing.

With this exciting opportunity ahead, Archery Guyana extends an open call to all archers, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and proud Guyanese to come on board and help make the 2026 Championships a bold statement of what Guyana can offer to the region and the world.
