Archery Guyana affiliates new club: ProArchers Guyana

Archery Guyana proudly announces the successful participation of its Results Manager, Mr. Saeed Karim, in the Advanced IANSEO Seminar hosted by World Archery Mexico, in collaboration with World Archery Americas, in Tlaxcala, Mexico, from July 20-21, 2026, immediately preceding the Pan American Archery Championships.

The prestigious seminar was conducted by Mr. Matteo Pisani, the inventor and one of the principal founders of the IANSEO results management system, the internationally recognised software used to manage scoring and results at World Archery events, Continental Championships, World Championships and the Olympic Games.

The programme brought together results managers from across the Americas, including representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Guyana, with the objective of preparing technical officials to competently manage results at World Ranking Events and other elite international competitions.

During the intensive two-day seminar, participants received advanced instruction on the operation of the IANSEO platform, including demonstrations of its sophisticated features, reviews of core functionality, and practical guidance on international standards for competition results management. Mr. Pisani also shared his extensive experience gained from managing results at Olympic Games, World Championships and other premiere international archery competitions, highlighting the mandatory technical requirements and global best practices expected at both national and international events.

Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Saeed Karim stated: "It was a great pleasure to learn directly from the inventor of IANSEO. I now have a much deeper understanding of the software and how we can continue improving the standard of results management in Guyana. The opportunity to immediately apply what I learned at a world-ranking event made the experience even more valuable."

Following the seminar, Mr. Karim remained in Tlaxcala as a volunteer member of the Results Team for the Pan American Archery Championships, where he gained invaluable practical experience managing live competition results at a World Ranking Event. His dedication and technical competence culminated in his appointment as a scorer for the championship finals, providing him with first-hand experience at one of the highest levels of international competition management.

Archery Guyana Strengthens Technical Capacity Through Advanced IANSEO Seminar in Mexico

Archery Guyana is proud to announce the official affiliation of Al Habibi's Archery Club (A.H.A.), marking another significant milestone in the Federation's continued mission to expand the sport throughout Guyana through strong, well-governed affiliated clubs.

The official handover of the Club's Certificate of Affiliation took place on July 1, 2026 during a modest ceremony, where President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, formally presented the Certificate of Affiliation to Mr. Jaza Percival, President and Head Coach of Al Habibi's Archery Club.

The affiliation follows the Club's successful completion of Archery Guyana's affiliation requirements and signifies its commitment to operating in accordance with the Constitution, policies, technical standards and values of the National Federation and World Archery.

Officially established on 18th May 2025, Al Habibi's Archery Club operates from the Samville Kuru Kururu Masjid, Kuru Kururu, Guyana, with the ability to conduct activities at other locations within the community approved by its Executive Committee. The Club's establishment represents an important expansion of organised archery along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway corridor and will provide greater opportunities for children, youth and adults in surrounding communities to participate in the sport.

The Club will be administered by the following Executive Committee:

President and Head Coach: Mr. Jaza Percival

Vice President: Mr. Shane Arinda

Secretary and Treasurer: Mrs. Lesa Waldron-Percival

These officers will oversee the governance, administration and development of the Club in accordance with its Constitution while working collaboratively with Archery Guyana to deliver programmes that reflect national and international best practices.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, welcomed the Club into the national archery family and emphasised the importance of affiliated clubs in achieving the Federation's long-term vision. "One of Archery Guyana's strategic priorities has always been to build the sport from the ground up by establishing strong, sustainable clubs throughout the country. Every affiliated club creates new opportunities for participation, develops future athletes and volunteers, and strengthens the foundation upon which national success is built. We are therefore delighted to welcome Al Habibi's Archery Club into the Archery Guyana family. Affiliation is much more than receiving a certificate.... it is a commitment to good governance, athlete welfare, safe sport, technical excellence and the values that define our Federation."

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana looks forward to working closely with Mr. Percival and his Executive Committee as they build a vibrant club that will introduce more Guyanese to archery and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of our sport.

Archery Guyana Welcomes Al Habibi's Archery Club as Newest Affiliated Member

Archery Guyana Inc., the National Archery Federation of Guyana has represented the nation at the sport’s Continental General Assembly of World Archery Americas (WAA) in Tlaxcala, Mexico.

The General Assembly held on Monday 22nd June, 2026 was conducted by the continental organisation in charge of the promotion and development of archery in the Americas. The congress which is made up of 32 member associations along with 2 associate members has notably documented Guyana position in the sport and has acknowledged the country’s rapidly growing influence within the global archery community at this congress. The delegation in attendance were Archery Guyana President Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon and Executive Board Member Assistant Treasurer Mr. Saeed Karim.

The highlight of Guyana's participation was a presentation delivered by President Persaud-McKinnon focused on the South American nation’s position in promoting sport and sport tourism, by hosting the upcoming Inaugural Caribbean Archery Championship and the eight edition of the Caribbean Development Championships, both scheduled to be hosted at the prestigious Guyana National Stadium, Providence Guyana in October 2026.

The presentation generated considerable interest among member associations, with many countries expressing their intention to attend and support the two concurrent Archery Championship events.

Time was allocated for a special video message from the Director of Sport, Mr. Steve Ninvalle, who welcomed delegates to Guyana on behalf of the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, and the Government of Guyana. The message highlighted the Government’s commitment to sport, future development and regional cooperation within the nations of the Americas, which was warmly received by delegates.

President of World Archery, Mr. Greg Easton, was also in attendance at the congress, joining delegates from across North, Central and South America along with many nations from the Caribbean.

Taking the opportunity to further promote Guyana as a tourism hotspot and sport destination, the Archery Guyana delegation made presentations of promotional packages to members in attendance. Delegates received Explore Guyana magazines, pens, keyrings and samples of Guyanese honey. These items which were presented ensured that every delegation left with a memorable introduction to Guyana's culture, hospitality and tourism offerings.

As part of the main proceedings of the General Assembly, elections and constitutional business were conducted. Mr. Saeed Karim was appointed as one of the three scrutineers responsible for overseeing the processes, ensuring that the validity and values of the WAA Constitution were upheld.

Elections were held and delegates subsequently re-elected Maria Emma Gaviria as President of World Archery Americas. Following her re-election, she announced the appointment of Mr. Sergio Font as Secretary General for the next four-year term.

The election of the Permanent Committees, Guyana’s Persaud-McKinnon secured the highest number of votes amongst candidates for the Gender Equity and Inclusion Committee and was duly elected to serve on that committee. The election of Archery Guyana’s President to this committee reflects the delegation's confidence placed in her leadership and commitment to fostering greater inclusion, participation and opportunity throughout the sport.

Additionally Archery Guyana Board Member, Assistant Secretary Ryan McKinnon was announced to be appointed to serve on the WAA Marketing Committee, strengthening Guyana's representation within the continental organisation.

Reflecting on the experience, President Persaud-McKinnon stated: "Attending my first World Archery Americas General Assembly in person was truly an incredible experience. I was extremely impressed by the professionalism displayed throughout the Congress and grateful for the opportunity to meet so many colleagues from across the continent with whom I had previously only communicated virtually. The Assembly provided an excellent platform for collaboration, learning and relationship-building that will undoubtedly benefit archery development in Guyana and throughout the Caribbean."

She further noted that the overwhelming support shown for Guyana's upcoming hosting of the Archery Championships events demonstrates the confidence that the international archery community has in Guyana's ability to administer and host high-quality competitions and development initiatives.

Archery Guyana extends sincere appreciation to the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana for their generous support in making the Guyana promotional materials available. Additionally, the Federation also recognises with sincerity and appreciation, the Guyana Olympic Association and its executive for the strong support that is given to the Olympic sport of Archery, ultimately enabling the development of Archery throughout Guyana.

Guyana Promoted As Archery Destination at World Archery Americas Congress in Mexico

Archery Guyana has once again demonstrated the growing strength and depth of local archery talent, securing an impressive fourteen (14) medals at the 2026 Caribbean Developmental Archery League (CDAL) Championships. The CDAL is a remote archery competition sanctioned by World Archery Americas, designed specifically for beginner archers from English-speaking Caribbean federations. Its aim is to promote growth and development in the sport, offering foundational competitive experience to new athletes in preparation for future international events like the Caribbean Development Championships (CDC) which are scheduled to be hosted in Guyana at the Guyana National Stadium in October 2026..

Competing against archers from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana concluded the championships with an outstanding haul of five (5) gold medals, five (5) silver medals and four (4) bronze medals.



The country's gold medal performances came from:

Several other Guyanese archers also delivered commendable performances and finished just outside medal positions, reflecting the increasing depth of talent being developed throughout the country.

The results underscore the effectiveness of Archery Guyana's athlete development pathway and grassroots programmes, which continue to introduce new participants to the sport while providing opportunities for progression at national and regional levels.

Federation's President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon opined "To secure fourteen medals across multiple categories is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the progress being made by our athletes and coaching team. We are particularly encouraged by the performances of our young and developing archers, who continue to demonstrate that Guyana has a bright future in the sport."

As a remote competition, the CDAL allows archers to compete from their home countries while adhering to World Archery rules, with performance monitored and judged in real time. The league’s structure enables young archers to grow steadily, developing both confidence and skill ahead of higher-level international tournaments.

Archery Guyana extends its gratitude to its coaches, officials, parents, club leaders and supporters whose continued commitment contribute significantly to the growth and success of archery throughout Guyana.


Archery Guyana Captures 14 Medals at 2026 Caribbean Developmental Archery League Championships

The National Indoor Championship 2026 hosted by Archery Guyana concluded efficaciously last Sunday at the iconic Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. Archery competitions requires a minimum of two days, in which both days saw exciting and high-level competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie among archery athletes from across Guyana.

The championship brought together athletes from clubs including Pro Archers, Bow Nation, The Archery Guild and Golden League Archery and some independent archers. Competitors contested in Recurve, Compound and Barebow divisions across senior and youth categories. The event showcased the continued growth and development of the sport of archery in Guyana, quite notably the increased number of youth archers whose performances drew admiration from spectators and officials alike.

At the medal presentation ceremony, remarks were delivered by President of the Guyana Olympic Association, Godfrey Munroe, who commended Archery Guyana for its organisation, discipline and commitment to athlete development. He congratulated the athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers for contributing to another successful national championship.

Medals were presented by President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, Assistant Director of Sport, Melissa Dow-Richardson, President of the Guyana Olympic Association Mr. Godfrey Munroe, Vice-Chair of the National Sports Commission and Vice-President of the Guyana Olympic Association, Cristy Campbell, along with special guests Cubie Seegobin and Jacqueline Seegobin.

During her remarks, Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and volunteers whose efforts made the championship possible. She specially recognised National Judge and Director of Shooting, Ryan McKinnon, whose acknowledgment was met with resounding applause from the gathering in appreciation of his tireless dedication to the sport and leadership behind the scenes and throughout the competition.

Archery Guyana additionally expressed appreciation to the Judges, Ryan McKinnon,  Robert Singh and Afzal Karim who ensured the event was conducted in accordance with World Archery standards. Also the competition committee, volunteers, range officials, set-up team and all supporting personnel from the Competitions Committee whose collective efforts contributed to the professional execution of the event.

The federation applauded the efficiency of the results and technical team for their efficient use of the internationally recognised IANSEO Scoring software which facilitated accurate scoring and live result updates throughout the championship. Thanks were extended to Results Manager Mr. Saeed Karim and Results Verifier Ms. Anoopa Ramdial. 

Official signalling and timing was done automatically by Archery Guyana’s newly acquired TS archery timer and signalling equipment, which the Federation recently invested significantly in. This system was purchased to ensure that Guyanese archers attain experience and can compete at home with feedback from international level rated equipment which is approved by World Archery Americas. It is noted that while an international level Archery specific shooting facility is not yet operated by Archery Guyana, the board continues to equip the Federation with high quality assets for when that facility is made a reality. 

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana extended sincere thanks to the Honourable Minister Charles Ramson, Honourable Minister within the Ministry Mr. Steven Jacobs, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, the National Sports Commission, Facility Supervisor Roy MacArthur and the dedicated staff of the Sports Hall for their invaluable support and assistance in ensuring the smooth execution of the championship.

Special appreciation was also expressed to our longstanding sponsor, Guyana Beverages Inc. for providing Oasis Water and Altitude Energy Drinks to keep athletes, officials and volunteers hydrated throughout the event.

The federation thanked Dr. Ariane Mangar, Vanessa Wickham and Aretha Legall for their collaboration and support in providing physiotherapy services to athletes during the championship.

Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon also announced that Archery Guyana will soon commence vision screening and bloodwork initiatives for athletes and officials as part of the federation’s growing commitment to athlete welfare, health monitoring and high-performance development.

Scores of Archers shoot for Gold at Archery Guyana’s 2025 National Indoor Championships.

While heavy rainstorms enveloped Guyana last weekend, it made for ideal environment for indoor archery, as proven over the weekend when Archery Guyana successfully hosted the 2025 National Indoor Archery Championships at the Sophia Exhibition Centre. The Federation motivated some 43 archers and their support personnel from across Guyana to brave the weather and come out to give an impressive display of precision, discipline, competitive excellence and mental fortitude in high level competition.

The two-day championship showcased the nation’s expanding talent pool across archery disciplines of recurve, compound, and barebow divisions. On Saturday morning Archery Athletes left their homes amongst the croaking of frogs and persistent pitter patter of raindrops making damp journey to compete in qualification rounds in the sport they love. Sunday was a similar in nature before the start of elimination matches and finals. Results of these championships contribute to national rankings and data collection to be used for national team consideration and historical records, reinforcing the importance within the local archery calendar of these ranking events.

Archery Guyana commends the commitment and resilience of the Organising Committee, athletes, coaches, officials, and families who ensured the event proceeded successfully despite challenging weather conditions.

With almost 50 participants registered, several high-level performances were seen together with increasing youth engagement. The 2025 National Indoor Championships represent another important milestone in the continued growth and development of archery in Guyana and attracted participation from various clubs such as Bow Nation, Golden League Archery, Pro Archers Guyana, Qayyim Archery and independent archers.

The tournament was officiated by National Archery Judges, Ryan McKinnon in the capacity of Director of Shooting, whose leadership ensured safe, smooth and efficient competition operations. Line and Target judging duties were carried out by Judges Afzal Karim and Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon. Judges ensure rules are abided by while upholding the standards and integrity of the sport. Technical scoring operations were managed by Results Manager Saeed Karim, with verification support provided by Anoopa Ramdial, ensuring accurate scoring and timely results throughout the championship.

Special appreciation were extended to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Roger Rogers, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, and Ms. Chester and the staff of the Sophia Exhibition Centre for their support.

Eight Medals for Guyana as 10 Archers Reach Elimination Rounds

The Caribbean Development Archery League (CDAL) is a remote archery competition sanctioned by World Archery Americas, designed specifically for beginner archers from English-speaking Caribbean federations. Its aim is to promote growth and development in the sport, offering foundational competitive experience to new athletes in preparation for future international events like the Caribbean Development Championships (CDC).

The National Federation, Archery Guyana is proud to report its outstanding results at the 2nd Annual CDAL 2025, with 40 local archers participating from various Clubs across Guyana, 10 advancing to the elimination rounds, and eight medals earned across several categories and bow disciplines.

This year’s showing follows Guyana’s historic debut at the inaugural CDAL 2024 last year, where Jermaine Kendall secured a silver medal, setting the tone for the country’s upward momentum in regional archery.

Guyana Shines at 2nd Annual Caribbean Development Archery League 2025

Archery Guyana is thrilled to announce the successful certification of twenty-two (22) new Archery instructors in Essequibo. This milestone represents a significant achievement in expanding the pool of qualified, sanctioned instructors to promote and teach the sport of archery across the region.

This course which was duly conducted by a Team of certified National Archery Coaches comprising Mr. Jeewanram Persaud, Mr. Ryan McKinnon, Ms. Roshini Boodhoo-Persaud, Mr. Saeed Karim, Mr. Umasankar Madray and Ms. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon was deemed a historic success which concluded on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

The certification programme, conducted by Archery Guyana, aimed to equip the new Instructors with the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to effectively teach and promote archery within their communities. 

Participants hailed from diverse backgrounds, including physical education instructors, teachers, youth leaders, and sports enthusiasts, all eager to contribute to the growth and development of archery in Essequibo. Through intensive hands-on training and theoretical instruction, the newly certified instructors demonstrated their dedication and passion for the sport.

Visiting the Archery Range on Sunday during the practical part of course were Mr. Arnold Adams, Prime Minister’s representative and Mr. Humace Ooddit, Regional Vice-Chairman who both commended the initiative and pledged their support to make the continued growth of the sport possible.

At the closing ceremony, President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon presented the Certificates and expressed her delight at the successful completion of the certification programme and that the participants’ commitment to mastering the art of archery instruction is commendable. Archery Guyana is confident that they will play a vital role in expanding access to archery and fostering a culture of excellence in the region. A presentation was made of all target stands built for the event, the PVC bows for each participant, the built quivers, arrows, target butts and target faces and other archery equipment.

In response, Ms. Wazeeda Bacchus, Sports Organiser of Essequibo attached to the National Sports Commission thanked Archery Guyana for making this historic launch of the sport in Region 2 possible.

Delivering remarks at the closing ceremony also was Toshoa of Mainstay/Whyaka Ms. Yvonne Pearson thanked the National Federation Archery Guyana and the National Sports Commission office in Essequibo for making it possible. 

The Board of Directors wishes to acknowledge and thank Director of Sport Mr. Steve Ninvalle, Deputy Director Mr. Franklin Wilson, Essequibo Sports Organiser Ms. Wazeeda Bacchus, and the National Sports Commission, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. The teamwork between NSC and Archery Guyana’s initiative underscores the immense potential for archery to flourish in every corner of Guyana.

The Board also extends profound thanks to the Chief Executive Officer of Service Guyana, Mr. Sheikh Mujeeb Ahmad, Mr. Samuel Arjoon, Mr. Collin Higgins and the Team at Guyana Beverages Inc., Oasis Water, Mr. Dilip Singh, WD’s Hotel and Mall located at Lot 110 Charity, Essequibo Coast and the media.
