Archery Guyana Declares Open the 2026 Indoor National Championships
Saturday, May 16Archery Guyana officially declared open its 2026 Indoor National Championships today on May 16, 2026 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, marking what has been recorded as the largest indoor archery competition in the Federation’s history.
The Championships were formally opened by Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, President of Archery Guyana, who welcomed athletes, officials, and supporters gathered for the national event.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon expressed delight at seeing many new faces participating alongside returning archers, noting that this balance reflects the continued growth, development, and renewed energy within the sport of archery in Guyana. She highlighted that national championships remain a special occasion, bringing together athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and supporters united by a shared passion for archery and a commitment to excellence.
Special thanks were extended to the Competitions Committee of Archery Guyana for their extensive preparation and coordination. Following the playing of the Guyana National Anthem, the Championships were officially declared open, with the President encouraging archers to compete with confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
A total of 56 participants from affiliated clubs and the Federation competed, making the 2026 edition the largest Indoor Nationals staged to date.
Athlete Welfare and Sports Science Support
Professional physiotherapist Reshonah Gordon was present during opening day and will continue throughout the Championships, providing essential medical and recovery support to athletes. This collaboration continues through the invaluable support of Vanessa Wickham, the National Sports Clinic, and Dr. Ariane Mangar of the Ministry of Health Guyana.
Archery Guyana reaffirmed its commitment to integrating sports science into its programmes, strengthening athlete care systems and supporting improved performance both locally and internationally.
Competition Officials and Technical Team
The tournament was officiated by National Archery Judges under the leadership of Ryan McKinnon, Director of Shooting, whose management ensured safe, smooth, and efficient competition operations. Line and Target judging duties were carried out by Judges Robert Singh and Afzal Karim, who upheld the rules, standards, and integrity of the sport.
Technical scoring operations were managed by Results Manager Saeed Karim, with verification support provided by Anoopa Ramdial, ensuring accurate scoring and timely publication of results throughout the Championship.

Archery Guyana extended special appreciation to the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Guyana, Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, Roy MacArthur, Facility Supervisor of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, and the staff of CASH for their continued support in facilitating the Championships.
The Federation also conveyed sincere gratitude to Guyana Beverages Inc. for its generous sponsorship through the provision of Oasis Water and Altitude sports drinks, ensuring athletes remained hydrated and able to perform at their best throughout the competition.
Finals Continue Tomorrow
The 2026 Indoor National Championships will continue on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, with competition resuming at 9:00 a.m. and the Finals scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., concluding at approximately 2:00 p.m.
