Archery Guyana and THAG Partner to Showcase Destination Guyana at the 2026 Archery Championships

The Board of Directors of Archery Guyana is pleased to announce a continued collaboration with the Tourism & Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) to create a vibrant tourism and hospitality presence during the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships (CDC) and Inaugural Caribbean Cup, being hosted in Guyana from October 21–25, 2026 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

The collaboration forms part of a broader national effort to position Guyana not only as an emerging sporting destination in the Caribbean, but also as one of the region’s most distinctive destinations for eco-tourism, heritage, culture, cuisine, adventure and hospitality.

Through the partnership, THAG and Archery Guyana will work together to introduce visiting athletes, coaches, officials, delegates, families and spectators from across the Caribbean and the Americas to the many experiences Guyana has to offer.

A key component will be the promotion of Explore Guyana Magazine, together with QR-enabled access to digital tourism resources, allowing international visitors to discover Guyana’s tourism attractions, hospitality providers, eco-adventures, cultural experiences, cuisine, entertainment and community-based tourism offerings before and during the championships.

The initiative reflects the growing importance of sport tourism and the Orange Economy, bringing together sport, tourism, culture and the creative industries to generate economic opportunities, strengthen local businesses and enhance Guyana’s international visibility.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, said the championships provide an opportunity to showcase Guyana well beyond the competition field. “When we invite the Caribbean archery family to Guyana, we want them to leave with more than medals and memories of the competition. We want them to discover Guyana ...... our people, our culture, our food, our biodiversity and our extraordinary hospitality. Sport gives us the platform; tourism allows us to tell the fuller Guyanese story.”

THAG Executive Director Mrs. Oslyn Kirton welcomed the partnership, noting the important role sport tourism can play in expanding Guyana’s tourism economy. “Tourism should be one of Guyana’s new frontiers for economic growth. Sport tourism creates opportunities for communities, businesses, creatives, hospitality providers and young people alike. Partnerships such as this with Archery Guyana allow us to showcase authentic Guyanese experiences while ensuring visitors engage meaningfully with our people, culture and destinations.”

The collaboration was discussed earlier in the year at a meeting held at THAG’s office on Waterloo Street, Georgetown, where the representatives explored opportunities to connect the international archery community with Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector.

THAG has also demonstrated its support for Guyana’s growing role within the international archery community through its support for the World Archery Americas (WAA) General Assembly held in June 2026 in Tlaxcala, Mexico. This partnership will continue with THAG maintaining a visible presence during the upcoming championships at the Guyana National Stadium, providing an important link between the sporting event and the wider tourism and hospitality industry.

The CDC and Inaugural Caribbean Cup are expected to bring athletes, officials and supporters from across the Caribbean and the wider Americas to Guyana, providing a valuable platform for local tourism operators, restaurants, attractions and other businesses to engage with an international audience.

For Archery Guyana, the partnership represents an important part of its vision for the championships: to host an international sporting event that creates a lasting legacy not only for archery, but for Guyana.
