Curtains Close on Successful National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026 as Guyana's Young Archers Shine

Archery Guyana successfully concluded its National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026 on Sunday 12th July, 2026 at the Guyana Police Force SportsClub Ground, Eve Leary, bringing the curtains down on an exciting weekend ofcompetition that showcased the country's emerging generation of archers.

Following Saturday's qualification rounds, the championship culminated yesterday with the highly anticipated elimination and medal matches, where 31 young athletes representing school and private clubs demonstrated exceptional skill, discipline, determination, and sportsmanship.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, delivered the closing remarks during the medal presentation ceremony, congratulating everyathlete for their dedication and courage while encouraging them to continuestriving for excellence both on and off the shooting line.

In her remarks, Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon commended not only the medallists butevery participant, emphasising that every competition provides an opportunityto learn, improve, and grow. She also expressed sincere appreciation to the various affiliated clubs, coaches, parents, volunteers, technical officials,sponsors, and partners whose unwavering commitment continues to strengthen the development of youth archery throughout Guyana.

The Federation once again records its sincere appreciation to Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken and Mr. Colin Boyce, Sports Development Officer of the Guyana Police Force and Retired Deputy Superintendent, for facilitating the use of the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground.

Gratitude is also extended to Guyana Beverages Inc. for providing Oasis Water and Altitude beverages throughout the championships, ensuring athletes, officials, volunteers, and spectators remained hydrated.

Archery Guyana also acknowledges the invaluable support of the Ministry ofCulture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, and Director of Sport Mr. Steve Ninvalle for their continued commitment to youth sport.

The Federation further thanks Honourable Minister Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, for taking time to attend Saturday's competition, engaging with the young athletes and offering words of encouragement that inspired participants to pursue excellence through dedication, perseverance, and resilience.
