Archery Guyana’s 2024 Senior Barebow Open Successfully Concluded

The Chinese Association of Guyana has thrown its support behind Archery Guyana as the Federation intensifies preparations to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships in Guyana this October.

The support was formally handed over at the Chinese Association of Guyana’s Brickdam office, with President of the Chinese Association of Guyana, Mr. Stephen Su, representing the Association.

The gesture comes at a critical stage in preparations for what promises to be one of the most significant international archery events to be hosted in Guyana. Archery Guyana is preparing to welcome athletes, coaches, judges and officials from across the Caribbean and the wider region for the October championships.

For Archery Guyana President Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, the support represents far more than a contribution to an upcoming sporting event. “Hosting an international championship is never the work of one federation alone. It requires a country, its institutions, businesses, communities and supporters to come together with a shared belief in what Guyana can achieve. We are deeply grateful to President Stephen Su and the Chinese Association of Guyana for recognising the importance of this championship and for standing with Archery Guyana at this important moment.”

She added that partnerships such as this demonstrate the increasingly important role of community and private-sector support in building sustainable sport.

The Chinese Association of Guyana has a longstanding presence in Guyana and has continued to contribute to national development and community initiatives. Under the leadership of President Stephen Su, the Association has also participated in partnerships aimed at strengthening cultural, social and economic engagement in Guyana.

The upcoming championships will provide Guyanese athletes with the opportunity to compete on home soil against regional competitors while giving the country the opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to host international sporting events to a high standard.

Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon stressed that every contribution towards the championships has a direct impact on the Federation's ability to deliver the event professionally. Archery Guyana extended its sincere appreciation to President Stephen Su and the Chinese Association of Guyana for their confidence in the Federation and for supporting the continued development of archery in Guyana.

The Federation also called on other members of the business community, civil society and the wider Guyanese community to join the growing circle of partners supporting the October championships.

“We are building something that belongs to Guyana,” Persaud-McKinnon said. “And we want Guyanese businesses, organisations and communities to see themselves as part of this story. When the first arrow is shot in October, it will represent not just the athletes on the shooting line, but everyone who helped us get there.”

President Stephen Su said the Chinese Association of Guyana was pleased to support Archery Guyana and its efforts to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships and the Inaugural Caribbean championships. “The Chinese Association of Guyana is proud to support Archery Guyana as Guyana prepares to welcome athletes and sporting representatives from across the Caribbean. International sporting events such as this are not only about competition; they are also opportunities to bring communities together, encourage our young people to participate in sport, and showcase Guyana to the region and the wider world. We believe that supporting initiatives like this is part of our responsibility as a community organisation, and we are pleased to play a small part in helping Guyana successfully host this important championship.”

Chinese Association of Guyana Backs Archery Guyana Ahead of Historic October Championships

Guyana's Target Archery athletes Devin Permaul and Roshini Boodhoo have completed their qualification rounds at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo on Friday 24th July, 2026.

In their individual recurve quests under sweltering conditions and high humidity, Permaul, seeded 25th in the Recurve Men event. He will move to the next phase of the competition, the elimination round matches, where he will face 8th-seeded Adrian Muñoz Rodríguez of Puerto Rico in the Round of 16.

While Boodhoo, seeded 29th in the tournament, will take on 4th seeded and world number 6 ranked Ana Paula Vázquez Flores of Mexico.

The matches will be contested under the World Archery Olympic set system, with the first archer to reach six set points advancing to the next round.

Traveling with the athletes is National Head Coach Ryan McKinnon who together with President of the Federation Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon praised both athletes for their hard work and preparation leading up to this point. 

Archery Guyana's President said: "Devin and Roshini have worked tirelessly to reach this level of competition. Qualifying for and now able to represent our nation Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Games is an achievement in itself, and we are proud of their dedication and commitment. We wish them every success as they compete against some of the world's best archers."

Both athletes will next compete on Sunday 26th July 2026, with Boodhoo shooting at 2:00 p.m. and Permaul at 3:30 p.m. local time. The live scoring can be followed online at www.ianseo.net

Guyana's Mixed Archery Team start the Central American and Caribbean Games

Archery Guyana's athletes Devin Permaul and Roshini Boodhoo, who will represent Guyana in archery at the XXV Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games as part of the Guyana Olympic Association's national delegation, have been accompanied by National Head Coach Ryan McKinnon.

The Central American and Caribbean Games remain one of the oldest and most prestigious regional multi-sport events in the world, bringing together the Caribbean's and Central America's finest athletes in a celebration of sporting excellence, unity and friendship. For Guyana's archers, qualification to compete at this level reflects dedication, disciplined training and unwavering commitment to representing the Golden Arrowhead with pride.

Archery Guyana extends its sincere appreciation to the President Godfrey Munroe and the executive committee of the Guyana Olympic Association for its continued leadership and support in facilitating the participation of Team Guyana at these Games. The Federation also acknowledges the guidance of Chef-de-Mission Kenisha Headley and Deputy Chef Roger Callender for their commitment to ensuring that Guyana's athletes are afforded the opportunity to compete on the regional stage.

Archery Guyana Proudly Backs National Team at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games

Archery Guyana successfully concluded its National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026 on Sunday 12th July, 2026 at the Guyana Police Force SportsClub Ground, Eve Leary, bringing the curtains down on an exciting weekend ofcompetition that showcased the country's emerging generation of archers.

Following Saturday's qualification rounds, the championship culminated yesterday with the highly anticipated elimination and medal matches, where 31 young athletes representing school and private clubs demonstrated exceptional skill, discipline, determination, and sportsmanship.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, delivered the closing remarks during the medal presentation ceremony, congratulating everyathlete for their dedication and courage while encouraging them to continuestriving for excellence both on and off the shooting line.

In her remarks, Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon commended not only the medallists butevery participant, emphasising that every competition provides an opportunityto learn, improve, and grow. She also expressed sincere appreciation to the various affiliated clubs, coaches, parents, volunteers, technical officials,sponsors, and partners whose unwavering commitment continues to strengthen the development of youth archery throughout Guyana.

Curtains Close on Successful National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026 as Guyana's Young Archers Shine

A total of 31 athletes from various school clubs and private clubs participated in the National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026, held earlier today with the Qualification rounds, Saturday 11th July , 2026 at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary. 

The championship showcased the growing strength of youth archery in Guyana, with young athletes demonstrating discipline, focus, and determination in a competitive environment.

Archery Guyana extends sincere appreciation to Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken and Mr. Colin Boyce, Sports Development Officer for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Retired Deputy Superintendent, for their invaluable support in facilitating the successful hosting of the event at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground.

Special thanks are also extended to the management and staff of Guyana Beverages Inc. for providing Oasis Water and Altitude drinks, ensuring that athletes, officials, and volunteers remained hydrated throughout the day’s activities.

The event was further supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, and Director of Sport Mr. Steve Ninvalle.

A highlight of the day was the presence of Honourable Minister Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of,l Vulture, Youth and Sport who spent time on the ground engaging with the young athletes, learning more about the sport of archery, and offering words of encouragement and inspiration about success, resilience, and learning from failure in sport.

31 Young Archers Compete at the National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026

Archery Guyana, the sole governing body of archery in Guyana, proudly announces the launch of its highly anticipated Archery Instructor Course in Essequibo, Region 2. With a commitment to fostering skill development, promoting the sport of Archery throughout Guyana and community engagement, this initiative signifies a significant step forward in the promotion and expansion of archery throughout the region.

At the simple Opening ceremony at the start of the morning of Saturday March 16, 2024 at Lake Mainstay, Essequibo, Region 2, President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud- McKinnon welcomed the 22 passionate individuals eager to delve into the world of archery instruction. This comprehensive programme tailored by Archery Guyana's experienced National Coaches and professionals, will equip participants with the knowledge, techniques, and leadership skills necessary to effectively teach and promote archery in the various schools and within their communities in Essequibo.

"Archery Guyana is thrilled to bring this enriching opportunity to the vibrant region of Essequibo," stated President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon. "We firmly believe that empowering individuals with the expertise to instruct others not only enhances their own proficiency since a few participants already recreationally enjoy the sport but also serves as a catalyst for the widespread enjoyment and appreciation of archery through the PE Teachers and community leaders."

The Archery Instructor Course will cover a wide array of topics, including safety protocols, equipment, shooting techniques, coaching methodologies, training tools, shooting process, WADA, para-archery, full form draw, PVC bow-making, target stand making, and setting a field. Through a combination of classroom instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands- on experience, participants will emerge from the programme as certified Archery Instructors, ready to inspire and guide others on their archery journey.

In this regard, sincere thanks are expressed to Service Guyana for supporting this initiative to introduce the sport to Region 2. Service Guyana, a leading provider of HVAC and Energy Efficiency Solutions, has teamed up with Archery Guyana, to bring the exhilarating sport of archery to Essequibo.

Archery Guyana introduces sport in Region 2

Archery Guyana Athletes bring Home 44 Medals – 22 Gold, 12 Silver, 10 Bronze in a Record-Breaking Performance in Trinidad.

The Golden Arrowhead soared high in Trinidad and Tobago at the 2025 Caribbean Development Championships (CDC), where Team Guyana delivered an exceptional display of talent, precision, and teamwork amassing an incredible 44 medals across individual, doubles, and mixed team events in the annual archery tournament.

This outstanding performance at the 7th CDC, firmly establishes Guyana as a regional powerhouse in the sport of Archery, with Guyanese athletes excelling across multiple divisions, bow types and classes from beginners to senior categories. Guyana fielded 31 Athletes of the 262 total archers hailing from 11 countries, together with 11 Officials including parents and other athlete support personnel.

Individual Standouts

Guyana’s archers showed their strong form and delivered quality performances across all bow categories. Shooting the Individual Qualification round on 24 October 2025 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, our archer not only managed to out rank many in their categories, some were able to crush standing records once again leaving their names etched in the World Archery Americas Tournament as others did before them.

Guyana also showcased its collaborative strength through multiple podium finishes in doubles and mixed-team events, often pairing successfully with athletes from other Caribbean nations, a true embodiment of regional unity in sport.

The team’s remarkable performance was expertly guided by Team Manager and Head Coach Mr. Ryan McKinnon, a World Archery Level 2 Certified Coach. His leadership both on and off the field played a pivotal role in maintaining focus, team discipline, fostering unity among the team, and ensuring that every archer was mentally and technically prepared for competition.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, expressed immense pride in the team’s historic results: “This is a monumental moment for Archery Guyana Inc and for our nation. Our athletes have shown remarkable discipline, resilience, and unity, both on and off the field. To see so many Guyanese archers standing on the podium, including our youth, truly reflects the success of our developmental pathway and the dedication of our coaches and officials.”

She extended heartfelt thanks to the Guyana Olympic Association, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, National Sports Commission, and sponsors including Guyana Beverages Inc., Massy Gas Products Inc., and other partners such as the Guyana Police Force, GRA Customs, and our athlete support personnel whose continued support made the team’s participation and success possible.

The Caribbean Development Championships, run by Continental Judges of World Archery Americas, is the region’s premier developmental tournament, bringing together archers from across the Caribbean, Latin America and South America to foster high-level competition and cultural exchange in this teaching tournament. The tournament was officially handed over to Archery Guyana for the 2026 instalment by the Trinidad and Tobago Archery Federation. President of the TTAF, Mr. Hasmat Ali in the handover to Archery Guyana’s Assistant Secretary Mr. Ryan McKinnon wished the Guyana Federation all success in hosting the 2026 tournament in Guyana.

Guyana’s remarkable 44-medal finish of the 2025 event along with our athletes continuing to shoot several record breaking scores in Caribbean archery establishes strong foothold in the sport in our region. This reflects the functioning of the country’s investment in youth development, training, coaching, officiating and all-inclusive growth under the Federation: Archery Guyana’s strategic plan.

Team Guyana Excels at Archery Caribbean Development Championships 2025

Two of Archery Guyana’s members, Jeewanram Persaud and Mehandra Chatargum are in the USA competing in the 20th edition of the Lancaster Archery Classic 2024 hosted at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pennsylvania, the largest indoor sports complex in the United States just outside of Lancaster. The Classic attracts archers from all over the world every year during the winter season.

Persaud and Chatargum are shooting in the Men’s Barebow Division against some of the world’s biggest names in barebow and have been meeting and making friends with some of them. Shooting for a top score of 660, Persaud shot his ranking score of 515 on Thursday 25th January, 2024 while Chatargum shot his ranking score of 502 on Friday 26th January, 2024. Persaud came in at #48 making it into the eliminations bracket, while Chatargum came in at #72 just outside of the elimination which ends at Archer Number 64. The elimination rounds on Saturday saw Persaud go up against John Dawson of the USA, with Dawson gaining just 2 points to win 100-98. The Classic continues with the shoot-up finals on today (Saturday) and tomorrow, Sunday.
